Companies House introduces new WebFiling account

Customers of Companies House are being encouraged to sign up for its WebFiling account to be introduced on 12 September as a first step in creating a single sign-in across all Companies House services.

The new WebFiling account will have improved security features and will give more freedom to self-manage accountants.

The new benefits include multifactor authentication, the ability to link companies to personal WebFiling accounts to give more control over filings, the ability to digitally authorise people to file on behalf of customers on WebFiling, and to remove authorisation, ease in seeing who’s digitally authorised to file for a company, an option to sign up to emails to help with the running of a company.

Once the new account is introduced, customers will also be able to digitally authorise themselves and other directors to file for a new company as part of the online incorporation process.

This is the first step in creating a single sign-in across all Companies House services, and it’s an important milestone in our 2020–25 strategy.

When logging in to WebFiling after the new account has been introduced, customers will need to give us some additional details to enable multifactor authentication on an existing account. Customers will not need to sign up for a new account, and they’ll be able to use their existing email address and password.

If customers do not have a WebFiling account, they do not need to do anything at this time. If they sign up for a WebFiling account in the future, they’ll have access to these benefits.

If customers have a find and update company information service account, this account will not be affected by these changes at this time.
